Call For Live Storytellers! Reply by Sunday, 8/20/23
I'm looking for storytellers to discuss their experiences during my upcoming panel at the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) Annual Conference in Kansas City, February 7-10, 2024
Attention live storytellers!
I'll be moderating a panel at the Annual Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) Conference in February 2024 in Kansas City, and I'm looking to add a few more people with live storytelling experience to our panel. If interested, please complete this brief inquiry form: https://forms.gle/MYggLWjoB2keT1bg7.
I've included my accepted event proposal below, which will obviously be modified to include more panelists.
Feel free to share this with your live storytelling friends. Final panel roster is due Wednesday, 8/22, so please get in touch asap. Thanks VERY much!
EVENT TITLE:
Writing to Change the World Through Live Storytelling: Craft Meets Catharsis
TYPE OF EVENT:
Nonfiction Craft and Criticism
EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Two live storytelling champions who first met as competitors team up to discuss the craft and catharsis of sharing writing with live audiences. This discussion -- between a) a writing coach managing PTSD, anxiety, and depression, and b) a formerly undocumented immigrant -- illuminates how they write and perform stories that heal, empower, open eyes, break down barriers, and change the world -- one performance at a time. Performer or not, this session will help to clarify your own writing.
EVENT AGENDA (90 min):
1. Moderator Christine Wolf introduces self and co-panelists with short biographies
2. Panelists briefly describe their personal lives before becoming live storytellers
3. Panelists share short, live stories to illustrate their individual styles
4. Panelists share how they conceptualize, write, rehearse, perform, and change the world with their live storytelling
5. Discussion ends with a 20-minute audience Q&A
STATEMENT OF VALUE:
Live storytelling's become an increasingly appealing -- yet often mysterious -- approach for new and established writers, particularly those who feel "stuck" or in need of feedback or in search of a creative twist. It can help to distill our larger, overwhelming writing projects down to their clear and actionable messages, but how do we do it? Two presenters with unique life experiences unite to show you how to bring personal stories to life, thus impacting your community and the world at large.
Panelists are not required to become members of AWP, though they CAN get a discounted annual membership if desired ($49 vs. $75) when registering for the conference at the presenter rate ($95 Aug 15 thru Nov 20, $100 Nov 21 thru Feb 6, and $125 at the conference).
P.S. For serious inquiries, I'm happy to share more info about the conference, the organization, and logistics. Here's the conference website: https://www.awpwriter.org/awp_conference/overview
