Every time you share your personal experiences, it makes it easier to be brave with sharing in my own projects. I'm learning so much from you and my gratitude is deep xoxo
The feeling is mutual. Sometimes I wonder if anyone cares that I share, and I curl up a little inside. Then, I read the words of other writers like you doing it, and I’m reminded why it’s so important. xo
This was really beautiful to read, Christine. Certain moments brought tears to my eyes. Thanks so much for sharing your story. On a personal note, I too found a 2nd husband named Eric who felt like family immediately. Truly, some good Erics out there.
This post means a lot to me, as I wade into a memoir draft, and find myself in need of a timeline. Up until I read your own timeline, mine was a monument to houses I'd lived in, and What Men Had Done To Me, but your post here has, somehow, unlocked 'put yourself at the centre of your story', and I'm now scribbling down in my notebook a time line of my decisions, my paths, my actions. It frames my life quite differently, and will definitely impact the memoir. Many thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing your life story so vulnerably through this piece. I've been on Substack in earnest since January and while it sometimes feels like I'm writing into a void, I hope my writing and my story can inspire and encourage others like you have for me today. I also have found through my life that writing and journaling have been the constant, offering endless support on my own path.
Thanks Christine, I’m writing my way through my life and times in my eponymous Substack space. I’ve posted three times a week for going on six months. My son suggested an outline based of Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey and that is helping me get through the most difficult parts.

This makes me so happy, Helen. Enjoy the process. If you end up sharing, I look forward to reading!

Your son sounds like an amazing person, and I’m in awe of your writing tenacity!
This is inspiring and brave. Brava, Christine!
What an incredible life. Thank you so much for sharing and for being so vulnerable. I'm might experiment with a timeline like this myself.
Goosebumps, I mean literal goosebumps - thank you for sharing this.
I wrote a book about my own journey. Now I feel like writing a newsletter about the healing powers of writing.
Oh! Please share the book! ❤️
It’s called OY! PAY ATTENTION! and I’m in the process of rebranding my current Substack newsletter on mental health to promote it on there.
LOVE the title and can’t wait to read more of your work!
I’m grateful to you for sharing your story. Thank you.
