The Oil Lamp Theater held a Telling Stories night on July 7, with a theme of FIRSTS, and I was honored to debut a new story I’ve been thinking about for nearly ten years.
It was my honor to share the stage once again with storytellers Mary Frances Schneider and Lois Baer-Barr, and to listen to Rachel Swearingen’s mesmerizing first performance at Oil Lamp.
My story, titled My First Dance With the Mob, detailed my years-long friendship with a member of one of America’s most notorious organized crime families. I greatly appreciated the audience’s participation and willingness to hear my journey from the sands of San Juan, Puerto Rico to an undisclosed penitentiary somewhere in these United States.
Since I began telling stories live, I’ve performed on the stages of Louder Than A Mom, The Moth, Mortified Chicago, Writers’ Theatre, Short Story Theatre, and Oil Lamp Theater.

If you’re interested in tips about how you might bring your own stories to the stage, let me know! I LOVE to help writers (and non-writers) curate their ideas and turn them into stories they can share with confidence.
