Subscribe to My Substack Today, and Together Let's Help A Woman of Color Share Her Story With The World
In honor of Giving Tuesday, I'll apply every dollar I raise today from new paid subscriptions to offer writing coaching services to a woman of color.
Hi.
My name is Christine, and I’m a writing coach from Chicago, specializing in memoir.
I’m 54 years old, and I’ve been writing professionally for 15+ years. My website is www.christinewolf.com.
I’m a former newspaper opinion columnist (Patch, Pioneer Press, Chicago Tribune), and I now specialize in trauma-informed storytelling. I’m also a bit shameless when I want to raise funds for the causes I believe in.
I’m asking readers to consider subscribing to my newsletter, Writers’ Haven by Christine Wolf, on this Giving Tuesday. I’ll use every dollar raised from new paid subscriptions to offer writing coaching to a woman of color.
I know how fortunate I’ve been to build my writing career while raising kids and working part-time — and that, for many women of color, doing something like that is simply not an option.
Look at any list of best female writers or famous female writers, and you’ll see that the landscape is (and has been) primarily white. This NEEDS to change. But how?
Together, let’s help a woman of color tell her story. I’ll use every dollar raised from new paid subscriptions to my newsletter to offer writing coaching to a woman of color.
What does writing coaching involve?
Writing coaching involves whatever the writer might need, including accountability, guidance with outlining, support with story structure, feedback, access to literary resources, and writing exercises. Just as I do with all my clients, I meet writers where they’re at in the writing process and encourage them toward the publishing finish line.
How will I choose this client?
I recently received a coaching inquiry from a woman of color, so if she chooses to work with me on her book, she’ll be the natural recipient. And, should this woman choose to work with another coach, I’d welcome suggestions for other recipients.
When it comes to coaching, many factors are at play. Ultimately, the coach and the client must feel a sense of connection and trust in order to partner on such a personal journey.
I have no rubric or expectations for “picking” a client. I just want to find someone who feels comfortable working with me and who’d benefit from the financial support of a writing coaching scholarship.
How can you give?
Subscribe now in any way you like. Subscribe for just a month ($5). Subscribe for a year ($40). Subscribe as a Founding Member ($50). Or subscribe with any amount beyond that (!!!). You can also gift a subscription:
In return for your generosity, you’ll not only support a writer in need, but you’ll also receive email updates directly from me when I post new content in my newsletter.
And, if you’re already a subscriber, please consider sharing this post today via email and on your social media networks. Thank you SO much.
Tomorrow morning, I’ll edit this post to include the final amount raised for this, the first-ever Writers’ Haven Writing Coaching Scholarship (WCS).
Thank you for being a part of this effort, and thank you for being a part of Giving Tuesday.
Sincerely,
Christine
