I *could* tell you about the scientific benefits of expressive writing, but right now, I suspect you may need an outlet more than you need a pep talk. I know I do.
So.
Consider this your invitation to unburden your heart for a hot minute and let go of some anxious thoughts.
Call it expressive writing or therapeutic journaling — or whatever you like.
Pour your heart out here in the comments, and don’t think twice about grammar or punctuation. Just go to town — and give it to us straight.
How are you holding up?
How do you plan to spend Election Day (and night)?
What are you feeling most anxious about?
How do you hope to feel one week from today?
I’m grateful to hear from you, and I’m certain that others will be, too.
I've been doing a pretty good job of staying involved with positive activities for our electorate, and detached from the toxic messaging that's everywhere.
I also live in the city that had a voting box blown up last week, followed by a murder/shooting in our mall during a Halloween event in front of hundreds of children and costumes.
These past few days I've seen the fear in my first- time-voter's eyes as he wonders what might happen if...that person is elected again.
Watching my son's lack of hope in our process has been devastating. My teenager already lived through Trump 1.0. and the damage psychologically was devastating. I mean, how do you frame malevolence? (Shoot Liz Cheney in the face? Just another day in politics in the United States ho-Hum..) You don't - you call it evil and then you have to try to explain why there were enough people to elect the man to begin with.
I'd say I want this chapter over with, but it will never be over until people do their shadow work and start dealing with their human propensity to otherize people they don't agree with. I'm just kind of done.
Great idea. I'm in the UK, so can't vote. But the outcome of this election has ramifications for all of us. There used to be a good natured joke between Brits and Americans that in World War 2, if it weren't for the Americans, we'd be speaking German. This could well have been true (and thank you 😘) . Here's the current version of that - if Trump wins, and pulls out of NATO, then we might end up speaking Russian. If Putin is given free reign in Ukraine, then he will set his sights on the rest of Europe.
