Thanks for writing this. I am sickened, devastated and furious about Monday's mass shooting as well. One things I keep hearing is that our legislators are "doing nothing," and I get why it seems that way. Congress did just pass the most significant gun safety legislation in 20 years., led by Democrats. It could've gone further (ban assault weapons, national database of gun owners, stricter background checks and waiting periods) without GOP resistance to those things and fear of alienating their gun-toting voters. The reality is that without keeping the House and Senate and/or gaining a bigger majority in the Senate, we won't be able to make ANY more progress and we will continue to slide backwards . We do need to contact our local, state and federal representatives (click here to do so: https://www.indivisibleevanston.com/evanston-representatives )and voice our outrage and let them know we support and demand stronger gun safety legislation, but we also need to make sure we get massive (more than usual) Democratic voter turnout in November. I'm a co-founder and co-leader of Indivisible Evanston, and we are part of the Indivisible Chicago Alliance. People can go here to see the most current ways they can volunteer: https://indivisiblechicago.com/election-22. Or sign up for our newsletter: https://www.indivisibleevanston.com/ and join one of our actions. https://www.indivisibleevanston.com/events . We also partner with Dem Party of Evanston, so getting invovled with them is another option, as is Sister District Greater Chicago. I am hopeful that the huge surge in grassroots energy after Trump's election that resulted in our 2018 and 2020 victiries will carry us through this Midterm as well -- hopefully Roe being overturned and this horrific tragedy so close to home will galvanize our community again to help us win in November and continue to fight GOP extremist and protect OUR freedoms and communities.

Sob openly. We need to stop pretending any of this is okay or that we’re okay. We’re not. My heart hurts. Everything hurts. None of this is okay.
