You are 100% correct. SO glad I have solid contracts and a sense of worth. Anyone running their own business knows these are essentials.

Good for you! Nip that shit in the bud!’ as for whether or not he’ll pay, that depends on whether he thinks the authors guild can actually do something to him.

Narcissistic service thief. He's so important that of course you'll work with him. Of course you'll change your processes for the chance to read his memoir... all about him. Scope creep? No such thing if he doesn't sign anything.

We explain to anyone who negotiates about our processes that there's a tradeoff. We remind them that if they're interested in the insights we and our software can bring to their business, they have to follow our process. If they don't want to follow it, that is totally fine. Here is what you lose by doing it your own way. And here's my favorite phrase: "How would you like to proceed?"

For us, this "negotiation" is free. We're asking them to sign up for year-round services in exchange for monthly payments governed by an annual contract. No work will be done without the contract and a check for month 1.

You have iterated your services over the years, making process adjustments based on experience to be more efficient, avoid distractions, and convert manuscripts into better crafted works... in short, making yourself an expert. I understand you need someone with Christine's expertise. How would you like to proceed?
